Built in 1870 and paid for by public subscription, the school existed to provide education for the non-conformist population of Stroud. It is now part of the complex of buildings owned by OPENhouse, which also house Star Anise Arts Cafe and various craft workshops used by the charity. We hope the Hall, with its pretty courtyard setting alongside Star Anise Arts Cafe, will become an artistic hub for Stroud and the five valleys. A place where good food, exciting performances and an entertaining and innovative approach to the arts can be experienced. Our aim is to produce and present a year-round rich and varied programme of theatre, dance, live music and other performing arts that will enrich Stroud?s cultural life. The Hall can currently seat up to 60 comfortably, with movable seating allowing for a totally flexible space even for meetings and training sessions. We stage Red Dog performances in the round, which creates a powerful intimacy and immediacy between actors and audience This approach has become an integral part of our work, and one which we will continue to develop at the British School Hall.
